Ninja Stealth Walking Guidelines

For enhancement of your personal skills of silent movement for stalking, escaping or examination of the territory, the Ninja-Gear.net brings you these 9 rules of stealth walking:

  • Breathe while you move. Unknowingly holding your breath can produce unneeded muscle tension which can result in loudly release of breath if your are accidentally unbalanced.
  • By keeping your center of mass near to the ground and carried on deeply flexed knees you keep your balance control.
  • Do not move by swinging the entire leg from the hip with stiffed knees. This is lazy and very dangerous habit. All your joints must participate in your movement. Emphasize fluidity by walking with your hips, knees, and ankles.
  • Do not stare in your feet while moving because you do not see other elements entering the surroundings. You must be able to see the entire scene.
  • If possible, allowing your hands to float lightly in front of your body can be a good way to detect possible obstructions. If your whole body encounters them it can be to late.
  • Stop and hold your position if you think that you have accidentally produced too much noise. Bend your knees a little to physically loosen the tension that could normally be caused by the alarm. Listen for signs that you were heard, such as the movements of others or the immediate silencing of background noise following your slip. Take a deep breath and release it slowly to relax. Stay in that place for as long as you feel it necessary to regain calmness and allow possible listeners to decide that they did not hear anything after all.
  • Never distribute your weight over both legs at the same time. When absolute silence is necessary, it is better to balance on your grounded leg while moving the other leg into position to step on it. This way you are always concentrated on your moving leg.
  • If speed of travel is not crucial be as patient as possible. Taking as much time as you can is very important to stay calm. Hasty movements are the greatest dangers to the person who must move silently without detection.
  • Always move in accordance to the surroundings. Do not go to greater distances than necessary to conceal your action, while at the same time being aware of what others entering the area might see if they cannot hear. Total silence may not be needed when moving through areas where rambling noise is natural part of the environment. Also be aware that moving near the ground like crawling or sliding may be the only way to move silently without being seen in some locations.

    Ninja mind power

There are two types of strength that every ninja works on: the inner and outer strength. The outer, physical strength is more obvious. It can be empowered by physical training, but with time it fades away as our body becomes older and weaker. The inner strength is subtle and cannot be perceived. Not only ninjas work on their inner strength, but every great man endeavors to improve it. The inner strength is by far more powerful but it must be developed with perpetual practice and study.

The life force of the universe is called Qi (Chi or Ki in Japenese) and it surrounds everything, it flows through, within and around all things. With practice it can be cultivated and collected to circulate within the body and then expressed in different ways on your will. People that know the true Qi are rare. The Qi cannot be described or put into words. It can only be experienced and this practice is called Kuji Kiri or Nine cuts.
As any path to enlightenment, its purpose is to show to the student his true face.

One can accomplish that with meditation. The meditation quiets the mind. Our perception of reality is filtered with our preconceptions and displayed on the pool of our mind. Thoughts running through our mind make the surface of the pool wavy and this block us from seeing the things as they really are. The purpose of the meditation is to calm the waters of this pool so we could see ourselves and the world more clearly.

The secret behind meditation is regular practice and patience. One should not rush with the meditation or expect immediate results. If practiced daily, progress would be visible.
Slowly, over time one could become aware of subtle sounds and movements, like his perception expanded, and a feeling of lightness.
It is best to practice meditation twice a day, early in the morning after one wakes up, and before going to bed. The place where you meditate should be quiet, dark, comfortable and there shouldn’t be any distractions.
The key to proper mediation is controlling your breathing. Breathe slowly and raise awareness over your breathing.
The purpose of this training is to calm the mind, raise awareness, improve oneself to be in the flow with the universe and heal your body.
Learn to meditate properly, by sitting quietly and listening to yourself breathe. This is one of the first steps in understanding the ninja’s mind powers.
